Original Portrait of an older man, Netherlands, about 1640, oil painting in Stuttgart

This stunning oil painting depicts a portrait of an elderly man looking to the left. His long, gray hair and fine beard give him a dignified appearance. The man wears a black robe with a striking, wide white collar. A small, rectangular, finely decorated accessory adorns the front of the collar. Most likely signs of a nobleman. The background of the painting is in dark tones, which puts the man's face in the foreground. The oval frame reinforces the focus on the man's finely crafted facial features, which display a serious and thoughtful expression. The painting impresses with its attention to detail and depth. The artwork shows age-related wear and two minor patches that underline its long lifespan. Stylistically, the picture can be dated to around 1640 in the northern Netherlands, possibly from the Zeeland or Friesland regions. An exact attribution to an artist is not possible, but a previous owner suspected that it could have been a student of Rembrandt van Rijn - but this could not be confirmed. Measurements 39"×33" Condition: Age-related signs of wear, unsigned. Technique: oil on canvas This rare and impressive painting is a true antique and an eye-catcher for collectors and lovers of Dutch Baroque painting. Please have a look at it or pick it up in Herrenberg or Hamburg with two weeks notice.
