Beer Bottle (100 year old) from Ft. Monroe, VA

The clear-glass beer bottle is from the Wiedemann brewery. The bottle has no defects. It is 9.5 in. high and was found on Fort Monroe, VA, in 1979.

This company, founded by Mr. Wiedemann, was once Kentucky's largest brewery. Wiedemann promoted itself as "America's only registered beer."
The company was merged with G. Heileman Brewing Company in 1967, and the brewery closed in 1983. The Wiedemann name was then sold and was brewed by the Pittsburgh Brewing Co. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania until 2007 when the brand was dropped.

Regarding Fort Monroe, Virginia. IN 1918 the post was expanded by about 25 acres using land fill. The expansion was necessary in order to increase the number of temporary buildings on post. (see: http://www.fortwiki.com/Fort_Monroe). The land fill contained many bottles, and this is one of them.

Fort Monroe is now a National Monument. This makes the bottle very unique. It comes with a letter of authenticity from the finder, which includes the location it was found along with the circumstancess and date of its finding.
