Equestrian Statue of Frederick the Great of Prussia, 1712-1786.
He was known as one of the most enlightened monarchs in European history. He was King of Prussia from 1740 to 1786, and was of the Hohenzollern Dynasty, Prince Elector of the Holy Roman Empire.
Bronze on a carved 3/4” wood base.
Bronze statue measures 8-1/2” high x 8” long x 4” wide.
These appear to be painted spelter, which is a pewter-like zinc alloy:
The delicacy of spelter - it is fragile - meant that it was often overlooked
and neglected by dealers in antiques in the second half of the twentieth
century. Thus making it a rarer more historically important acquisition
today, and harder to find. http://1930.fr/art-deco-sculptures-bronze-or-spelter.html
Only 1 example found on the internet, and it’s of LESS casting quality than this one, though of the same size. I have this one at half off that price for a quick sale.
